Yamba SLSC News – March 5th, 2018

Mar 5, 2018 in Weekly News Bulletin by

Last weekend saw nippers from surf clubs along the state’s coastline converge on Swansea Belmont beach to contest the NSW State Age Championships. Yamba’s sole representative at this major event was U/13 nipper Kalani Ives who showed her strength in the water to win gold in the final of the U/13 board race. Congratulations to Kalani on this outstanding achievement.

Some of the club’s ‘older’ competitors had another competitive hit-out following on from the Country Titles as they participated in the Brunswick Heads Masters carnival in ideal conditions last Saturday. With teams from the Far North Coast Branch as well as a large contingent of Gold Coast clubs, Yamba members acquitted themselves admirably to finish 6th in the pointscore from 18 participating clubs. Best performers on the day for Yamba were Bobbie Winger and Jill Ennever in the Over 60 years female water and beach events. Yamba Associate member Don Marsh who hails from the Tasmanian club of Carlton Park had a number of wins in the Over 60 male water events and joined Yamba members in some of the team events. All competitors enjoyed the friendly nature of the competition at this annual event which provided further training leading in to the FNC Branch Titles to be held on the re-scheduled date of March 25th at Lennox Head.

Unfortunately, back at Main Beach nipper activities were called off for a third week in a row due to surf and beach conditions. However, Nipper co-ordinator Danielle Connolly advises that activities will go ahead this Sunday ‘rain, hail or shine’. This will be a club championship day for nippers. The following Sunday March 18th the Nippers Presentation Day will be held.

The senior/masters State Titles will be held at Swansea Belmont this weekend with 2 Yamba SLSC boat crews – Reserve Men’s and Reserve Women’s – competing, as well as Pete Rheinberger in Masters events. We wish them good luck.

The golf club raffles in aid of the surf club are held at the Yamba Golf and Country Club each Saturday from 5.30pm. We are currently looking for an extra 4 or 5 people to help sell tickets once every 8 or 9 weeks. If you would like to volunteer in this regard, please contact the surf club office for details.

A reminder that the office is open each Mon, Wed, Fri from 9.30am – 12.30pm for all club enquiries.
