Yamba SLSC News – March 12th, 2018

Mar 12, 2018 in Weekly News Bulletin by

Some good news again on the competition front for Yamba SLSC with Masters competitor, Pete Rheinberger, bringing home individual silver and bronze medals from the NSW State SLS Titles at Swansea Belmont last week and the Yamba SLSC ladies boat crew also proudly now displaying their silver medals from the event. Pete finished second in the 55/59 years surf race, third in the rescue tube and was an unlucky fourth in the board race in rough conditions. The ladies Over 160 years Masters boat crew of Leah Essex, Jo King, Tash Hancock and Andrea Nikas, was second to North Cronulla in their Masters division on Friday but on the advice of their sweep, Rodney McSkimming decided to forego a shot at the Reserve division title due to the rough conditions on the following day.

The Reserve men’s crew rowed well to get through their 3 rounds on Saturday and qualified to be amongst the final 16 crews for the quarter finals. On Sunday they won their quarter final but in the semi final finished a close fifth and unfortunately missed a chance to go through to the final. Well done to all competitors for the dedication and commitment to training that is needed to compete at this level.

This weekend the men’s crew are on the road again to the Queensland State Titles at Maroochydore. Will Brighton will also be competing at Maroochydore chasing a medal in his specialty event the open men’s 2 km beach run.

Last Sunday three of our U/13 nippers completed and were successful in attaining their Resuscitation Certificate. Well done to Yasmin and Malik Elabbasi and Kalani Ives – we hope you go on to become patrolling members of Yamba Surf Club next year. Thanks to trainer Kim Morgans for guiding these nippers through their course.

Nippers action finally got underway again last Sunday with the previously postponed club championships taking place. The water events were held at Convent Beach and the beach events were on at Main Beach.

The end of year presentation for all nippers will be held at the clubhouse this Sunday from 9.30am – age champion awards for each age group will be presented to winners and runners up as well as participation awards for all U/6 and U/7 nippers. There will be fun and games for everyone and parents are asked to bring a small plate of ‘party food’ to share. Further enquiries to Danielle Connolly or Katie Becker.
