Yamba SLSC News – Feb 20th, 2018

Feb 20, 2018 in Weekly News Bulletin by

The Yamba SLSC Men’s Reserve Grade boat crew competed strongly in the Australian Surf Rowers League at Elouera Beach in Sydney last weekend.
With 52 crews from around Australia in their division, the Yamba crew of Ray Wiblen, Zac Brotherson, Michael Barker, Dylan Greef and sweep, Rod McSkimming rowed strongly in flat conditions on Friday through 4 preliminary rounds to qualify for the Sunday finals.
Sunday saw a big swell develop and, with helmets compulsory in the conditions, the crew progressed through to the final after placing 2nd in their semi. Unfortunately a poor start in the heavy shore break had them chasing from the rear to finish a creditable 6th. Avalon Beach were first, followed by Maroochydore and Palm Beach.
Heavy surf conditions also disrupted activities for other club members. The Senior/Masters Branch Titles scheduled for Lennox Head last Sunday were postponed due to heavy surf conditions, as were the weekend nipper activities.

This weekend the boaties are on the road again – this time to compete in the ‘Battle of the Boats’ at Pacific Palms. Good luck boys!

Nipper activities return to Sunday morning at Main Beach following last Saturday’s cancellation.

The golf club raffles in aid of the surf club are held at the Golf Club each Saturday from 5.30pm. We are currently looking for an extra 4 or 5 people to help sell tickets once every 8 or 9 weeks. If you would like to volunteer in this regard, please contact the surf club office.

A reminder that the office is open each Mon, Wed, Fri from 9.30am – 12.30pm for all club enquiries.
