Yamba SLSC News – Feb 12th, 2018

Feb 12, 2018 in Weekly News Bulletin by

It was a heavy surf that faced the smaller group of just under 20 swimmers who braved the conditions at Main Beach on Sunday for the handicap surf race. New Bronze medallion holder, Dan Newman, swimming off a handicap of 80 secs was first home followed by current Bronze trainee Steve Butler off 100 secs in second place. Club President Joe Dougherty swimming from the backmark of 280 secs took out third place.

Our 4th Bronze Medallion squad of the season has begun their 8 week training sessions each Sunday under the guidance of Bill Onslow. Welcome to our new members and welcome back to some of our previous members who are ‘upskilling’. We look forward to having these members patrolling Main Beach in the near future.

Our nippers are back in action again after the school holiday break. Last Sunday saw lots of fun in the water and congratulations go to ‘Nipper of the Week’ – Under 7 member, Liam O’Shea. Parents are advised that nipper activities this weekend will be held on SATURDAY AFTERNOON commencing at 3.30pm on Main Beach. There will be NO nippers on Sunday.

The Board of Yamba Surf Club would like to thank all those who supported the recent 200 club competition. Our ticket sellers worked hard to ensure all tickets were sold before the draw on Australia Day. Results: First Prize – Darrell Irwin; 5 Major draws – Gordon Cupitt, Pat & Deanna Goddard, Peter Fahey, Steve Casson, Yamba First National; 10 Minor draws – Wiblen Electrical, Chris Young, Yamba Physio, Brad Collis, Greg Cavanagh, The Bait Place, Cec O’Dea, Fay Johnson, Greg Zietsch, Bill Howell. Thanks to all involved.

Friends and supporters of Surf Life Saving are advised that ‘door knocking’ will be carried out in the Grafton, Maclean, Yamba area by the Surf Lifesaving Foundation during February. Funds raised Australia wide are filtered back into all clubs at the end of the campaign. Any donations are gratefully accepted or if you would prefer to donate directly to Yamba Surf Club please call at our office during office hours: Mon, Wed, Fri 9.30am – 12.30pm or phone 66462463. Your support is always appreciated.
