Yamba SLSC members, Peter Rheinberger, Todd Ives and Jasmin Ives competed in the Masters Surf Carnival at Brunswick Heads on Saturday. Jasmin was the most successful of the three winning the women’s beach flags. Todd placed 2nd in the 30/39 years board race and Peter, hampered by a hip injury, finished 4th in the 50/59 years board race.

Good surf conditions made for entertaining racing during rounds 6 and 7 of the North Coast Boat Series at Woolgoolga on Saturday  The Yamba Masters 160 years crew finished 4th in Round 6 and 3rd in Round 7 to maintain their lead in the seasons point score. The Yamba Open Women’s crew were the best performed club crew on the day with 2nd place in Round 6 and 3rd place in Round 7. They are sitting in 2nd place in the point score. The Yamba Reserve Men’s crew rowed well to finish 2nd in Round 7 on Saturday after a disappointing result in the earlier round of the day that saw them miss the final. They are now sitting in 5th place in the point score.

The great weather and favourable surf conditions attracted a large field of 35 swimmers to the Carl Schaeffer Handicap Swim on Sunday morning. It was an all-female winner’s podium with Jane Lawrence, off 80 seconds, first. Handicapper Belinda Sanders said Jane had a brilliant swim, riding a beautiful wave home and will find herself on a much bigger handicap! Kalani Ives, off 60 seconds placed second and Gracie Pitkin, off 80 seconds, came in third. The swim is held every Sunday at 11:30am with names taken from 11am.

A team of over 20 Nippers are heading to Salt on the weekend to participate in 2 days of competition for the Branch Championships. Good luck to all!

Nippers this week will only be on for U6’s & U7’s due to the majority of Age Managers and Water Safety being at the carnival. All other age groups are cancelled.

Great surf conditions made for plenty of water activities at Nippers on Sunday. The little ones had lots of fun identifying and dressing up who was who on the beach and playing Water Flags in the shallows. U7’s practiced their wading and showed off some great dolphin diving skills. It was all thrills and spills with the U8’s on the boards for the first time. They were grinning from ear to ear. U9’s got busy perfecting their body surfing skills. U10’s & U11’s continued with their DRSABCD training and practising board rescues and U12’s- U14’s practiced various rescue techniques and continued their Resuscitation training. A great day had by all.

Sienna Clifton from U9’s was Nipper of the Week. Sienna is a great listener, enthusiastic and always try’s her best. Sienna said her favourite thing about Nippers is swimming! Congratulations and keep up the great effort! Thank you to Sassafras Pasta & Pizza for your support with this award every week.
