Yamba SLSC had 7 youths go to the Far North Coast Branch Development Camp over the weekend. They participated in a program that focused on leadership skills, team work and decision making. Well done to Chelsea Bridges, Brianna McFarlane, Darby Essex, Taylah Sutherland, Gracie Pitkin, Jorden Elabbasi and Shannon Colwell for their participation and great representation of our club.

The Carl Schaffer Handicap Swim attracted a field of 28 swimmers on Sunday. Paul Julian, off 30 seconds, was first across the line with Jim Wheeler, off 100 seconds, a close second and Joe McGrath, off 130 seconds, third. The swim is held every Sunday at 11:30am with names taken from 11am.

It was a hot morning at Nippers, and everyone was pleased to see the surf had settled, allowing lots of time in the water. An age group relay set the pace for the day and U6’s kept their title and remain the reigning champs! U9’s placed second, giving it their all.

U9’s, U10’s, U11’s & U12-14’s all did swims and water activities with the boards. Some age groups experienced catching the “super highway” at the southern end of Main Beach for the first time. There were some worried faces when told to swim in the rip but they soon learnt that a rip can be useful to help you get out the back faster. Thank you to our water safety and age managers who do a wonderful job ensuring our children are kept safe.

With lots of jellyfish around at the moment it was a good opportunity for the age groups to learn the correct First Aid treatment and patient care of the jellyfish sting.

Andrea Miltiadou is looking at starting March Past training, getting ready for the Branch Championships at Salt on 14th-15th February. Please contact Andrea if your child would like to be part of the March Past team for this carnival.

U6 parents are on set up, pack up and BBQ duty this Sunday. Could you please be at the beach by 9am.

Our Nipper of the week Award this week went to Ryan Anderson from the U8’s. Ryan had a lot of fun performing tube rescues and was a great listener. Congratulations Ryan. Keep up the good work. Thanks to Sassafras Pasta & Pizza for their support with this award every week.

Ryan-Anderson-smallYamba SLSC meat raffles are on every Saturday evening at the Yamba Golf and Country Club. John Barnier, Sachie Ardrey and Keith Bradley will be selling tickets from 5:30pm with the draw staring at 6:30pm. With 33 meat trays up for grabs, come along and try you luck!
