Well done to the 5 boat crews who competed on Saturday and Sunday at Scotts Head for rounds 3 & 4 of the North Coast Boat Series. All crews were very competitive in their races. Congratulations to the Open Ladies crew who won their division both days, the Open Men’s crew who made the final both days and the Masters Over 160yrs who placed 2nd on Sunday.

Yamba Nipper Coordinator Kerry Lee would like to thank everyone involved with the successful running of the Far North Coast Branch Nipper Carnival held at Main Beach on Sunday. The conditions couldn’t have been better.  Yamba Surf Life Saving Club had 56 nippers proudly representing the club with many of the competitors participating in their first carnival. A total of 8 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze medals was won on the day.

The carnival opened with the traditional March Past, with Yamba Nippers placing equal 3rd. Thank you to Maclean Pipe Band for providing the music.

The Bronze medals continued with Cooper Olsen, Zephyr Trotman, Max Earle, Kody Mills, Sam Earle and Malik Elabbasi joining forces in the Buchannan Relay.

The U8’s contingent impressed everyone with their great enthusiasm and sportsmanship. This was their first carnival and they all participated in all events. What a great effort!

Ben Morris won gold in the U9’s beach flags and silver in the U9’s beach sprints. Harry Whitehouse took home bronze in the U9’s beach flags. Kurtis Corcoran surprised himself when he entered the board race at the last moment and placed fifth.

Kalani Ives shone in the U10’s, winning gold in the flags, board race and surf swim. Malik Elabbasi won gold in the U10’s male surf swim and silver in the board race. Kalani, Malik and Yasmin Elabbasi won silver in the U10’s open board relay. Alana Griffin just missed a medal in the U10’s beach sprints placing fourth, and you couldn’t wipe the smile of Jorja Whites face after she came twelfth in the U10’s beach flags.

Carissa Miltiadou won silver in the U11’s surf race and bronze in the flags. Cameron Varcoe sprinted across the finish line for a bronze medal in the U11’s male beach sprints. Georgia Salvestro showed everyone her determination as she completed her first iron person event, crossing the line with an exhausted smile to great applause and encouragement.

Joshua Morris took out gold in the U12’s beach flags. Tyreece Kapeen won bronze in the U12’s beach sprints. Joshua, Tyreece, Clay Penman and Reilly Wunderlich were narrowly beaten on the finish line resulting in a silver medal for the U12’s beach sprint relay.

Jorden Elabbasi showed off some great body surfing skills to win gold in the U13’s surf race.

Brianna McFarlane won gold in the U14’s beach sprints and silver in the beach flags. Taylah Sutherland impressed everyone with her great sportsmanship and happy attitude throughout the day.

Education Director Kim Morgans would like to advise members of some upcoming branch courses. Unforeseen circumstances saw the spinal management course being held at Lennox Heads on 8 November postponed to Sunday 30 November. Those members who had nominated for the course will remain on the list and further nominations will be received up until the 20th November. A Silver Medallion Aquatic Rescue course will be held in the Ballina area on the 5th/6th/7th December 2014, nominations close on Monday 24th November. Applicants must be at least 16 years and hold a current Bronze Medallion/Cert 11. Numerous members have enquired about a Gold Medallion course; the course will be run if there are sufficient numbers, so if you would like to do this course please contact Kim Morgans so a date and venue can be confirmed. You must be proficient in the following, BM/Cert11, Apply [Senior] First Aid, SMPC or SMBBM, ARTC and Spinal Management and be at least 17 years.

Due to the branch Nipper carnival, there was no Carl Schaffer Handicap Swim last Sunday. Handicapper Belinda Sanders looks forward to seeing everyone ready for the swim on Sunday morning, at the front of the clubhouse.

Yamba SLSC meat raffles are on every Saturday evening at the Yamba Golf and Country Club. Greg Wyllie, James Ryan, Mark Gillespie and Mitch Imeson will be selling tickets from 5:30pm with the draw staring at 6:30pm. With 33 meat trays up for grabs, come along and try you luck!
