Two Yamba SLSC boat crews rowed in tough conditions at the Coffs Craft Carnival last weekend. The U23’s crew narrowly missed the final on Sunday and the Reserve crew was unable to finish due to breaking an oar. Our boat crews will be in action again later this month at rounds 5 and 6 of the North Coast Boat Series on 13 and 14 December.

A field of 28 swimmers took to the water at Main Beach on Sunday morning for the Carl Schaffer Handicap Swim. James Hiatt, off 100 seconds, was first to cross the finish line with Will Pitkin, off 120 seconds, a close second and Kim Morgans, off 50 seconds in third. This popular swim is held every Sunday morning at 11:30am, with registrations taken from 11am.

The Yamba Ocean Swims will be held on Sunday 28th December with the 700 metre swim commencing at 10am, the 2km swim at 11am, and the dash for cash at midday. Electronic entries are now being taken at www.oceanswims.com  This is the clubs biggest fundraising event of the year and all members are asked to make themselves available to help on the day.

Once again Main Beach was picture perfect on Sunday allowing Nippers to enjoy the calm conditions. After a couple of weeks with carnival commitments it was great to see all kids back into the swing of things in Yamba.

This week due to smaller numbers U10’s did things a little differently and moved some of the more advanced children to older age groups to give them a challenge and mix it up a bit. The other kids were able to get one on one coaching to boost their confidence and practice their skills. Thank you to our Age Managers who do a fantastic job encouraging and catering for all abilities.

This week its U11’s parents turn to set up, pack up the beach and man the BBQ. Could you please be at the beach by 9am. Your help is expected but also appreciated.

The weeks are flying by and we are nearing the halfway mark for the season. We hope all Nippers are enjoying themselves and gaining invaluable surf education and lifesaving skills. Our Christmas break up party will be on Sunday the 14th December at Main Beach with Nippers resuming in the New Year on Sunday 11th January.

The Nipper of the week Award this week went to Taylor Durrington from the U6’S. Taylors Age Manager Helen said that Taylor puts in 110% effort in the water activities and had an all-round great day. Taylor is always cheerful and was very excited to receive the award. When asked what is the best thing about Nippers, she replied ” I want to be a lifesaver so I can save all of the other lifesavers”! Congratulations Taylor. Thank you to Sassafras Pasta & Pizza for their support and donating a $10 voucher every week.
