Surf conditions were tough for nippers competing at the Junior Branch Championships at Salt last Saturday and Sunday. Congratulations to all Yamba Nippers who braved the tough conditions and represented our club so well.

In team events, the U10’s surf race team (Kalani Ives, Malik & Yasmin Elabbasi and Sam Earle) won silver. The Buchannan Team (Cooper Olsen, Logan Miltiadou, Taliga Laverty, Max Earle, Kalani Ives and Carissa Miltiadou) won bronze. Carissa Militadou (U11’s) went on to win gold in the ironwoman, silver in the surf race, and bronze in the flags. Sam Earle (U9’s) bought home a bronze medal in the surf race. Kalani Ives (U10’s) won gold in the flags, board and surf race and bronze in the beach sprints. Jorden Elabbasi (U13’s) won silver in the surf race and just missed the medals placing fourth in the ironman and board events. Malik Elabbasi (U10’s) won gold in the surf race.

This Saturday is the final round of the North Coast Surf Boat Series at Coffs Harbour. There are double points on offer in this final round. The Over 160 Years Masters crew of Chris Bonner, Wayne Ringland, Rod McSkimming, Scott Greensill and sweep Ray Wiblen are leading the point score in their division and will be looking for a top 3 placing to claim the title. The Open Women’s Crew of Leah Essex, Jo King, Angela Eke, Cassie Maria, Hannah Smith and sweep Rod McSkimming are running a close 2nd behind Crescent Heads and will be out for a win at Coffs to try and claim the title.

After a few weeks of no Nippers due to the conditions it was nice to be back on the beach on Sunday morning. The surf conditions were perfect for plenty of time on the boards. Congratulations to the Nipper of the Week Jorja White. Jorja impressed everyone with her swimming and board work, and even surprised herself with how far she swam! Congratulations Jorja, enjoy using your Sassafras Pasta and Pizza Restaurant voucher.
