Jacob Lollback Memorial Race Day – Not held in 2016

The Jacob Lollback Memorial Board Race Day is held at Yamba’s Main Beach at the start of each season to commemorate the life of Jacob Lollback, who tragically drowned in a diving accident on the 22nd September 2009, at the age of 20.

Jacob Lollback was a champion board paddler who began his lifesaving career as an 8-year-old nipper at Yamba. He went on to win three consecutive Australian board race championships – Under 17’s in 2006, and Under 19’s in 2007 and 2008. He was widely recognised as the fastest board paddler in Australia.

Jacob’s outgoing personality and friendly smile endeared him to all in surf lifesaving and beyond. His down-to-earth nature made him at ease no matter who he was speaking with. He will forever be remembered as one of the legends of Yamba Surf Club.

The inaugural Jacob Lollback Memorial Board Race was held in 2010, and it has become an annual event where Australia’s board paddling elite compete to remember their mate. The race is open to competitors of all abilities, in age groups from Under 15s to Masters and is always held in late September or early October, to coincide with the anniversary of Jacob’s death (while avoiding clashes with other events such as the Coolangatta Gold, Ironman Series trial, and Dolphin Classic).  The event has been suspended for 2016 and the club along with Jacobs family will decide as to whether the event will continue in 2017.
